The Plymouth Church music program provides opportunities for children through Grade 7 to pursue their love for music, both vocal and instrumental. Choir instruction follows the practices of the Royal School of Church Music, whose program information can be accessed by visiting the Royal School of Church Music web site. The study of instrumental music is enhanced through scholarship support for private lessons. Cherub Choir Age 3 through 1st Grade Thursdays, 3:30-4:30 pm Plymouth's youngest music students are encouraged to develop their a love of singing in a relaxed and fun-filled atmosphere. Group singing of age-appropriate material offers children a way to enjoy choral music while learning special lessons about friendship and faith. Pilgrim Choir Grades 2-7 Thursdays, 4:30-5:30 As they mature, our choir students move from basic vocal training to more sophisticated choir skills, learning to read music as they gain experience. Rehearsals are on Thursdays from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. during the school year. The Pilgrim Choir sings periodically at services during the school year, and also performs at various church events. Registration Auditions are not required for choir enrollment. Students do not need to have previous music experience, although it is helpful for older children. Participation is open to boys and girls of all religious backgrounds. Costs of choir-related activities are covered by Plymouth Church. Scholarships A limited number of choral scholarships are offered to choral singers in the Pilgrim Choir, providing funds to help a child study voice, piano or any instrument that requires they learn to read music. Scholarships require a written application and a relaxed, age-appropriate audition with the Music Director. Those interested in participating in the Children's Choir program are encouraged to contact Bruce Oeschlager, Minister of Music and Choir Director (phone at 718-403-9546).
