Supporting Plymouth Church of the Pilgrims financially is one way we “bind ourselves in the presence of God to walk together in His ways.” |
How Can You Help?
We ask everyone to think carefully about what you can give. We encourage everyone to look in your heart, consider your own financial situation, and adopt a “proportional giving” strategy. This means picking a percentage of your household income - whether it is 1% or 10% - and pledging that amount. Our goal is for all members of the community to challenge themselves to give as much as they can and shoulder their share of Plymouth's operating expenses. | Income | 2% | 4% | 6% | 8% | 10% |
|---|
| $10,000 | $200 | $400 | $600 | $800 | $1,000 | | | 25,000 | 500 | 1,000 | 1,500 | 2,000 | 2,500 | | | 50,000 | 1,000 | 2,000 | 3,000 | 4,000 | 5,000 | | 75,000 | 1,500 | 3,000 | 4,500 | 6,000 | 7,500 | | 100,000 | 2,000 | 4,000 | 6,000 | 8,000 | 10,000 | | 125,000 | 2,500 | 5,000 | 7,500 | 10,000 | 12,500 | | | 150,000 | 3,000 | 6,000 | 9,000 | 12,000 | 15,000 | | 200,000 | 4,000 | 8,000 | 12,000 | 16,000 | 20,000 | | 250,000 | 5,000 | 10,000 | 15,000 | 20,000 | 25,000 | | | 500,000 | 10,000 | 20,000 | 30,000 | 40,000 | 50,000 |
When you engage in estate and tax planning, please consider Plymouth as part of your overall strategy.
The Financial Picture
Plymouth Church of the Pilgrims is fortunate to have an endowment funded by the generous gifts of its members over our long history. However, our Church has many financial needs, both for keeping our many programs housed and supported (salaries, heat, light, maintenance) on an annual basis as well as to maintain our beautiful, but old, physical plant. Due to its age and constant use, our buildings are in regular need of capital improvements. We rely principally on three major sources of funding to meet the bulk of our annual operating expenses: annual giving, school tuitions, and earnings from our endowment. However, while we rely on everyone in our congregation to support our activities, in fact not every member participates in annual giving. We urge our members to learn more about Plymouth's financial needs and to consider adding or increasing their support to ensure that our programs continue to be high quality and robust. In addition, the greater the membership support, the better we can maintain our beautiful buildings.
How Much Should You Give?
We want to foster a culture where everyone gives. It is reported that the average pledge to local churches nationally is 2.5% of household income. We encourage everyone at Plymouth to consider achieving - and surpassing - this baseline proportion of family household income. If you are not in a position to give as much as you would like, then please consider how you might help indirectly by making efforts to attract new members. A larger congregation will help Plymouth in its mission, both financially and otherwise.
How Do You Give?
If you're ready to make your commitment, please email the Plymouth Church office , or call 718-624-4743, and ask to speak with the Senior Minister, or arrange to have a member of the Stewardship Ministry contact you. Credit cards are accepted. Plymouth also accepts gifts of stock. If you would like to make a deferred gift to Plymouth, or wish to include Plymouth in your estate plan, or would like to name Plymouth Church as beneficiary of a revocable trust, retirement plan, or life insurance policy, please contact the church office to schedule a conversation.
