Recognize Fraud, Phish and Email Scams

We have put efforts into ensuring that the emails sent from Plymouth are virus-free. Unfortunately, we can’t ensure complete protection as the data included may become infected, corrupted, or intercepted. We recommend that you scan the email for threats with trustworthy anti-virus software.

What is a phish?

Phish or fraudulent emails may contain links to phony websites and may request you to share personal or financial information by using variety of techniques. Plymouth Church will not request your personal or account information such as your account number, Social Security number, or PIN via email or text.

Phishing is the process of attempting to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords and credit card details by masquerading as a trustworthy entity using bulk email which tries to evade spam filters.

Emails claiming to be from popular social web sites, banks, auction sites, or IT administrators and staff members are commonly used to lure the unsuspecting public. It’s a form of criminally fraudulent social engineering.

What to do if you think you have received a fraudulent email?

As a general rule, never open attachments, click links, or respond to emails from suspicious or unknown senders.

If you receive what you believe is a virus, phishing, or spam email from Plymouth Church, please email us at aanderson@plymouthchurch.org and forward the message with the complete header information will provide important information.
