God is the Maker of heaven and earth,

the sea, and everything in them—

God remains faithful forever.

God upholds the cause of the oppressed
and gives food to the hungry.
The Lord sets prisoners free,

the Lord gives sight to the blind,
the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down,

the Lord loves the righteous.
The Lord watches over the foreigner

and sustains the fatherless and the widow,

but God frustrates the ways of the wicked.
The Lord reigns forever,

your God, O Zion, for all generations.
Praise the Lord.
— Psalm 146:7-10

OUR MISSION

We are Plymouth people who have come together in response to what we believe is God’s call to understand, address, and dismantle social, environmental, and racial injustice of all forms.  We seek to:

  • Provide opportunities and a safe environment at Plymouth where we can openly share and discuss topics related to social, environmental, and racial justice

  • Educate ourselves about the history and continuing presence of injustice in our local and broader communities

  • Publicly advocate for and find opportunities to serve social, environmental, and racial justice causes in our community

This kind of learning and action comes in many forms, including book discussions, films, speaker panels, museum visits, partnerships with community organizations, volunteer service and activism. We seek to be a platform where Plymouth members who care about social and racial justice are empowered to pursue their work. Anyone is welcome to join us in this work.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Discovery, Renewal, Gentrification: A Justice Ministry Conversation with Greg Jarrell | Thursday, October 24, 6:30-8:00 PM | Reception Room

Join Plymouth's Justice Ministry for an evening of learning about the political theology that informed Urban Renewal policies all over the country. Our theology shapes how we build our neighborhoods and plan our cities. Greg Jarrell, a community development practitioner in NC, has researched the stories of structural racism that churches have supported, with the hope of uncovering a path toward restorative justice.

Justice Book Club | Fall Read | Sunday, November 24, 9:30 am

This fall, the Justice Book Club is reading Mark Yaconelli's new book, Between the Listening and the Telling. The book explores the power of stories to tell us who we are--individually and collectively--to heal our wounds, and to transform whole communities. We will meet together on Sunday morning, November 24, to talk about it. Grab a copy of the book from Lesley-Ann.

Volunteer with the Migrant Ministry: Legal Clinic Mondays

Legal Clinic Mondays are coming back to Plymouth this fall. Starting October 7 at 4:00 PM, our church is providing weekly hospitality for asylum seekers to complete their applications, including food and host support. If you can help create safe space for our neighbors by providing food or serving as a Plymouth host, please sign up here.

If you want to volunteer as an interpreter or childcare helper, please sign up here.

English Conversation Partners | Sundays @ 3:00 PM

Come help our migrant neighbors practice their English. We at Plymouth at 3:00 PM on Sunday afternoons. No other language skills are necessary—just patient conversation partners. Contact Lesley-Ann to get on the list to volunteer.
