HOLY WEEK 2025
Celebrating Easter does not mean we are naive about the evil in the world. Instead, in the uncertainty of life, we learn to trust. When the pain is severe, God is near to comfort. When the burden is heavy, God is there to lean upon. When we feel empty and alone, God fills the aching vacuum with love. During this Holy Week, we give our lives to God, in the hope that we will receive them back again, not for a time, but for eternity. We make our way to Easter and the promise that God will end the story in triumph.
Palm/passion Sunday | april 13, 11:00 AM | Sanctuary & Online
Palm Sunday begins with the waving of palms, but Jesus knows the parade will not last. He will soon be praying in the Garden of Gethsemane, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me.” On the first day of Holy Week, we will remember that shallow applause is less than the commitment on the other side of suffering.
This service will be livestreamed on our Watch Worship webpage.
Maundy Thursday | april 17, 6:30 PM | reception room
When Jesus handed his friends the bread and cup and told them he was going to die, there was not a dry eye in the room. We will pray, listen, read scripture, think about this painful story, and share communion at our tables. Come for dinner at 6:30 PM, and bring a dish to share.
Good Friday | April 18, 7:00 PM | Sanctuary & online
We come to Good Friday to learn to live between Jesus’ words, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” and “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.” Through shadows, silence, confession, and scripture, we hear the journey Jesus takes toward death and consider our place in the story.
This service will be livestreamed on our Watch Worship webpage.
Stations of the Resurrection | April 19-30 | Orange Street
Exhibit Opening: Saturday, April 19, 1:00 PM
In the season of Easter, come visit the Stations of the Resurrection exhibit along our gate on Orange Street. The exhibit explores the way Jesus’ resurrection changes how we see everything. In the artist statement, Scott Erickson says, “What does it mean to experience resurrection now?
The world may not have changed the morning Jesus was resurrected, but Jesus changed. And then his resurrection encounters with his followers irrevocably changed them, and changed their communities, that changed the world.”
The 14 stations will go up the day before Easter, and we will gather for an opening that day. The community is welcome to walk through the exhibit anytime between April 19 and 30.
Easter Sunday | April 20, 11:00 Am | Sanctuary & Online
Easter shakes up the Etch-a-Sketch of everything we are used to assuming. If Easter is true, then life is more than we have imagined. We can give passionately, and love without reservation. We can give our lives to justice, peace, and hope. We can give thanks for the truth of Easter. The darkness is overwhelming, but light will come in the morning.
This service will be livestreamed on our Watch Worship webpage.
